FIVE ELEMENT ACUPUNCTURE DIPLOMA
ICA have structured the course to enable those in current employment to embark on a course of study. As such, it runs across two years of weekend attendances, held once a month. Following the application, an interview is conducted, at which time both the prospective student and the College will have the opportunity to establish suitability for the course. We offer only a small number of places, to ensure a balanced student to tutor ratio.
Year One: Within this phase, students will attend one weekend a month, during which time they will cover a thorough grounding in the theory of Five Element Acupuncture. This aspect of the curriculum will be supported by drawing upon the rich diversity of the philosophical and historical classics of Chinese medicine. Between weekend visits, the student will enhance their learning by logging onto the College website, where modules are available to read in preparation for the next college visit. This approach to learning will build the students’ confidence, enhanced by the tutors sharing their wealth of knowledge, wisdom and experience in the practice of Five Element Acupuncture. This approach to learning follows the traditional apprenticeship style of study.
Year Two: Within this phase, students will attend one weekend a month, during which time we put the theories and principles of Five Element Acupuncture taught in Year One into clinical practice. This aspect of the curriculum will consist of topics such as: how to carry out a Traditional Diagnosis, short/intermediate/long-term treatment planning, additional meridian channels — thereby building the students competence and those skills required for practice.
Throughout Year One and Two, alongside the online study, there will also be the opportunity to attend regular webinars to enable students to get together virtually, look at different aspects of the course and enhance their knowledge.
Whether you are in the U.K. or Europe, there are lots of travel options available. Our 2020 course runs in Abingdon, 8 miles south of Oxford. There are no train stations in Abingdon. However, there are several stations close by that link up with regular bus services. The nearest train stations are Radley – 3 miles, Oxford – 7 miles, Didcot Parkway – 8 miles.
Assessments: Written assignments set throughout the course, are marked by your course tutors, and we conduct practical clinical skills assessments at the end of Year One and Year Two.
Upon completion of the two-year course, and successful completion of the practical skills assessments, graduates will be awarded a Diploma in Five Element Acupuncture – with permission to practice. Graduates will also receive a year’s free membership of the 5 Element Acupuncture Network.
