In Chinese medicine, autumn is governed by the Metal Element.
As the nights start to cool and the energy shifts, it’s a great time to visit your acupuncturist for a balancing treatment to help you ride through the changes more easily.
Metal is associated with the Lung, so practitioners tend to see a rise in breathing related conditions e.g. asthma, bronchitis, allergies and sinus infections at their clinics.
The Large Intestine is the other Organ associated with the Metal Element and, when out of balance, this season can see people having difficulty letting go and moving forward. It’s easy to see how trouble with this Organ could show up as constipation, diarrhoea and/or abdominal pain.
The skin is known as the ‘third lung’ and is associated with this Element, so we expect to see dry skin, chapped lips etc.
You can have acupuncture to help strengthen your body, mind and spirit even when you’re feeling fine, its roots are as a preventive medicine.
A one-off seasonal tune-up is recommended to assist you through times of transition for optimal performance and to help you overcome and heal illnesses more efficiently, should they occur.
So, if you’re currently not being treated for other symptoms, now’s the perfect opportunity to get ready for autumn!
